Street ImpRock Sessions:

The Raw Street Sound

When I sing and play harp without a band, my voice and lung power can completely overpower the guitar — and I’m fine with that. These are my first sessions using a mini mic for street recordings, so it’s all trial and error. I’m not polishing or editing every take — these are pure, in-the-moment jams.
I know my vocals and harp can sound wild, even overwhelming at times, especially when I’m hands-free and free to let loose on the streets. The sound clips here and there, but that’s part of the beauty of the street performance — the real, unstoppable energy of ImProck by Theo Hirsch.

A good percentage of the guitarists I jam with are complete amateurs — and that’s part of the beauty. I do this for the fun, for the community, and for the content.

And just to be clear: using a harmonica harness is not ImpRock. A harness compromises tone and limits expression. I am not Bob Dylan, nor do I have a lick of influence from him in my art. True ImpRock requires the vocalist/harp player to be hands-free, harmonica in hand, playing with at least one other person — that’s when it becomes real.

If you ever plan on surpassing me at ImpRock, start with the harp. That’s where the soul lives.

So if the sound’s a little off here and there, consider it part of the ride.

Thanks for your time — and for the record, I like you all more than just friends.

— Theodore Hirsch

Get it on Shit Show Street (6th st. Austin)

A strong, high-energy ImpRock jam captured on Austin’s “Shit Show Street,” riffing on the chaos, the nightlife, and the guys trying to pull girls into bars with free drinks. The vibe and performance are on point — even if it wasn’t my most lyrically heavy jam.

South Congress st. ImpRock Jam

A high-voltage, vocal-driven ImpRock moment on South Congress — heavy, powerful freestyle vocals paired with hard-hitting harmonica lines. Nothing but voice and harp, pushing the energy straight into the street.

Change

An improvised ImpRock performance on South Congress, centered on human transformation — changing, evolving, rearranging life, and breaking old patterns. Freestyle vocals and harmonica carrying the theme of personal metamorphosis in real time.

The Girl I Love the Most

A freeform ImpRock performance centered on emotion — instinctive vocals and harmonica weaving through a spontaneous tribute to the girl I love the most.

Fire Engines

A dynamic ImpRock jam built around the chaos and urgency of fire engines blasting by — spontaneous vocals and harmonica weaving into the street noise and turning it into rhythm.

Flower Power

A vibrant ImpRock jam sparked by a group of girls who asked for a song about flowers — freestyle vocals and harmonica weaving a playful, in-the-moment burst of “Flower Power” energy right on the spot.

I Like Tacos

A playful ImpRock jam blending English and a little Spanish, riffing about tacos, burritos, and street food vibes. The crowd was laughing the whole time as the harmonica and freestyle vocals kept the energy light and spontaneous. I Like Tacos!!
